Connection with the five continents
The Port of Málaga, located in the province with the greatest economic importance in Andalucía, is an important logistical hub with connections by sea, land and air to the entire world.
Maritime communications
The container terminal maintains regular lines with African, American, European and Far Eastern ports; cruise connect to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, with moorings in Málaga; the proximity to the African coast makes us a bridgehead with the ports of Ceuta (64 miles) and Melilla (114 miles), with whom regular daily lines are maintained.
Communications by road
The road network makes the Port of Málaga one of Spain's best connected areas with the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of Europe. Access to the Port by road is currently via a link between the Service area and the Intermediate City Ring Road, known as "New Access to the Port of Málaga from the San Andrés Intermediate Ring Road" which links up with the exterior Ring Roads of the Málaga by-pass, where the two national roads which link the city to the rest of the territory come together, the A-7 (Barcelona-Cádiz) which runs along the coast, and the A-45 which runs inland (Córdoba-Málaga) and which joins up with the A-92 motorway in Antequera and the rest of the national road system.
Algeciras, 90 minutes away, Seville 2 hours, Córdoba 90 minutes and Granada 60 minutes, are some of the closest cities by road.
Within the port area, all the piers are linked by a system of interior cobblestoned concrete roads ranging in width from 8 to 16 metres.
Rail links
Access to the Port by rail is in the West sector, which links the port service area with Málaga's main terminal, with capacity sufficient capacity for its traffic.
Through RENFE Loading, RENFE has created an important cargo movement system which involves carrying out a complete logistics FF.CC.+ Road at the request of clients. At the Port, carriages required for every type of traffic coordinate with the various moorings of the vessels.
In terms of passenger traffic, with the new high-speed train (AVE), Madrid is just 2h30 away.
There is a network of railway lines for the Port of Málaga which arrive at all the commercial piers, in both the shunting zones as well as the depots.
Aerial communications
Málaga International Airport connects to the main cities of the five continents.
The Aerial Loading Centre is the latest response of the Airport to the development of the cargo transport sector in what is forecast to be a strong growth area.
Logistical activities
Málaga's CTM (Cargo Transport Centre) improves the transport infrastructure of goods by road, being situated in Málaga’s so-called productive triangle, formed by the Airport, the Technology Park and the Port.
Andalucía’s Regional Board of Government’s Committee of Public Works and Transport is developing a project for a large logistical intermodal platform, near the Port of Málaga and with direct connections to it.
Meanwhile, and just 45 kilometres away, in Antequera, another initiative is being developed which will comprise one of Spain's biggest dry ports.
